The purpose of Cartoon Art
To provide easy to find and relevant information about Australian artists in the fields of Cartoon, Caricature and Humorous Drawing and Illustration. We have an amazing wealth of talent in Australia, but try to find it when you need it.
Why Cartoon Art was created
One of the things that prompted the creation of CartoonArt.com.au is the simple fact that Aussie cartoon and caricature artists are virtually "Internet Invisible".
Even those who have been working for decades, and have their own web sites either don't readily show up in searches, or get buried under a ton of meaningless and irrelevant links. Links which are invariably trying to sell something totally unrelated. Sadly in some cases, this is due to the poor SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) design of the artists' web sites.
Fast access to information and services is one of the primary benefits of the Internet. Unfortunately, as the Internet inexorably expands, the amount of useless and/or irrelevant information we have to wade through to find what we are looking for also grows.
As an example: An initial search to find just some of the artists listed on Cartoon Art, spanned several days and included the scouring of hundreds of search result pages. The truth of this situation is, if people can't find you on the first ten pages of search results ... you do not exist!
Of course this situation could be partly addressed by better (and more search engine friendly) web site design for the artists. But some artists don't even have a proper web site, relying instead on blogs or pages provided by a newspaper. This means that the blog host and/or newspaper benefits more from their artistic works than they do.
A more efficient approach is to provide a hub, index or nexus to a community of web sites, that provides easy to find profiles. Cartoon Art is such a nexus.
The Future of Cartoon Art
The future of Cartoon Art .com.au depends largely on the artists. Obviously a level of cooperation is required for this endeavor to be successful. Without
it, this web site will become yet another small curiosity tucked away in the backwaters of the Internet.
